Head of Retail SMA Servicing
Who we are looking for

The Head of Retail SMA Servicing will be a hands-on business-builder possessing a strong background in all aspects of building and managing an asset servicing business, ideally with wealth management/retail MSA experience, or experience within an institutional or wealth management firm providing retail SMA servicing for that firm's own clients. Have a proven track record in growing business, including building a team, business strategy creation, technology development, sales and marketing, service model design and implementation, digital client user experience development and P&L management. A hands-on, entrepreneurial management style, ideally including experience building a business within a larger corporation where certain functions are shared. Need strong interpersonal and communication skills; executive presence and a high ability to collaborate with others in a matrixed organization.

State Street Alpha enables State Street to be our clients' essential partner for implementing business strategies and for delivering market leading capabilities and scale via our front-to-back investment platform. The Head of Retail Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) Servicing will grow and lead Alpha's outsourced servicing capabilities aimed at institutional and wealth managers who provide retail SMAs to affluent individuals and family trust. State Street is a leading global asset servicer and has a dominant market share in the institutional investment operations outsourcing ("middle office") business. This role thus represents an opportunity to build a business from the 'ground up' as an extension to our existing middle office outsourcing business. It will require a hands-on, entrepreneurial leader. Providing retail SMA servicing will all Alpha to more fully support institutional clients with wealth management operations, as well as wealth managers themselves, a segment which is strategically important to Alpha's growth plans. Given that retail SMAs are a predominantly US offering, this business will focus primarily on the US market.

What you will be responsible for

  • The candidate will perform and lead a broad range of strategic functions spanning business competitor analysis, product development and management, sales, marketing, reputation building, and strategic partnerships including:
  • Owning the vision for management the retail SMA servicing product roadmap in the context of our broader middle outsourcing business, to enable our client value proposition and deliver synchronized product development and initiatives across State Street organizations and external partners
  • Leading day to day servicing for clients with retail SMA businesses, and coordinating with State Street's shared operations functions to ensure a seamless end to end service experience
  • Representing State Street as a though leader in the wealth management segment, particularly on servicing topics related to retail SMAs
  • Managing revenue, expense, and capital investment programs to meet business unit goals
