About the Role
The Opportunity
Wellington Management is seeking a Senior Microsoft Cloud Platform Engineer to design, build, and evolve the firm's Microsoft cloud platform, with primary responsibility for Azure, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Entra ID.
This is a senior engineering role focused on building secure, scalable, and resilient cloud services that support the firm's global technology environment. Working closely with Cloud Infrastructure, Security, Identity, and Architecture teams, you will contribute to the evolution of the Microsoft cloud platform through engineering, automation, governance, and continuous improvement.
This role is focused on engineering, platform ownership, and continuous improvement rather than traditional operational support. You will take ownership of key platform capabilities, improve reliability and security through engineering, and modernize Azure, Microsoft 365, and identity services through automation and thoughtful platform design.
The successful candidate will be a proactive engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of complex technical challenges, working independently, and exercising sound technical judgment while collaborating effectively across teams.
Based in London, this role provides meaningful daily overlap with US-based engineering teams, enabling close collaboration, shared ownership, and consistent engineering practices across global operations.

Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve Wellington's Microsoft cloud platform across Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft 365.
- Design, implement, and own secure, scalable, and resilient platform capabilities supporting business-critical services.
- Implement and enhance cloud governance, identity, security, and access management capabilities.
- Develop automation using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Infrastructure as Code, and Microsoft-native cloud services.
- Drive platform improvements through automation, simplification, standardization, and lifecycle management.
- Lead technical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex issues spanning Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and hybrid identity environments.
- Evaluate emerging Microsoft cloud capabilities and recommend and implement technologies that improve platform security, operational efficiency, or business value.
- Contribute technical expertise to platform architecture, engineering standards, and modernization initiatives.
- Lead complex technical investigations and drive long-term engineering improvements.
- Proactively identify, prioritize, and deliver engineering improvements that enhance platform capability, reliability, and operational maturity.
- Share technical expertise through design reviews, documentation, and collaborative problem solving.
- Contribute to cross-functional cloud initiatives and platform projects across Infrastructure, Security, Identity, and Architecture teams.
- Stay current with emerging Microsoft cloud technologies and identify opportunities to strengthen the platform.
- Build strong partnerships across Infrastructure, Security, Architecture, Application Engineering, and Operations teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable cloud services.
- Work collaboratively across global engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges and deliver consistent platform capabilities.
- Contribute to technical documentation, engineering standards, operational guidance, and knowledge sharing.
- Promote engineering best practices through collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
- Strong experience engineering and operating enterprise Microsoft cloud platforms, including Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 workloads.
- Strong experience engineering and modernizing enterprise Active Directory as part of a hybrid Microsoft identity platform, including integration with Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft 365.
- Strong experience designing and implementing secure identity and access management solutions.
- Experience designing and implementing secure, well-governed cloud platforms.
- Advanced automation experience using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code and modern cloud engineering practices.
- Experience designing and operating highly available, resilient cloud platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize, and deliver engineering improvements through automation, simplification, and platform modernization.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing work, and proactively identify opportunities to improve platform capabilities and operational efficiency.
- Proven ability to independently own complex technical initiatives from design through implementation and operational support, exercising sound technical judgment with minimal direction.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build trusted partnerships across engineering, architecture, security, and operations teams while working effectively with a high degree of autonomy.
- Experience contributing to cloud architecture, platform modernization, or transformation initiatives.
- Experience working within regulated or security-sensitive environments.
