Some new macro guys left Citadel and ExodusPoint in London

In these days of hard times for macro portfolio managers (PMs) and hard talk of 100 people leaving or losing their jobs in London alone, it's unsurprising that PMs are leaving funds.

Not all the leavers across the industry have left involuntarily. Some are having a rest. Some have other plans. But many have gone.

Recent departures from Citadel's registered London entity include: Avi Tullu, a senior macro volatility portfolio manager who joined from Pimco in September 2025 and left again in September 2026; and Simon Roach, a former head of EMEA rates trading at Merrill Lynch, who left in early October after a long stint that began over a decade ago. Citadel declined to comment.  The exits were previously reported by With Intelligence.

At ExodusPoint, macro departures from the registered London entity include other recent joiners. Senior macro analyst Soham Sengupta came in December 2025 and left in October 2026 according to the FCA Register. Rupert Guest, an FX trader from Barclays, joined in January 2025 and left again earlier this month. Jim McKeever, who joined from Caxton in 2024, left too. ExodusPoint declined to comment.

Amid the departures, new people arrived. As we reported earlier this month, Vineet Mudgil, an FX trader at HSBC in London, just escaped to Citadel after nearly 20 years with the bank. Juniors Emaad Alvi and Max Dykes also joined Citadel's macro team from Tudor and RBC respectively. In New York, Citadel plucked Pedro Goldbaum from Deutsche Bank.

One senior macro trader and former hedge fund PM who's been sitting out of the market, watching from the sidelines, observed that these are fine times for someone like him. "Banks have very few macro people left and funds need to hire," he said.
