Your new role
As the Data Governance Lead, you will be responsible for designing and implementing foundational data governance capabilities as part of a major governance, risk and compliance transformation program. Working across business, technology, risk and compliance teams, you will establish governance frameworks, operating models, data quality standards and ownership structures that ensure critical business data is trusted, secure and effectively managed.You will lead the development of enterprise data governance practices, including data stewardship models, metadata management, data classification frameworks and lifecycle management processes. In addition, you will drive stakeholder engagement, support governance tooling implementation, and establish governance forums that improve organisational data maturity and decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing enterprise data governance frameworks, standards and policies.
- Establishing data ownership, stewardship and accountability models across business domains.
- Defining data quality controls, monitoring processes and remediation frameworks.
- Developing data classification, metadata management and lifecycle management practices.
- Identifying and documenting critical data elements supporting risk, compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Creating business glossaries, data dictionaries and information asset registers.
- Partnering with stakeholders to improve data quality, consistency and reporting outcomes.
- Supporting governance tooling implementation and related reporting capabilities.
- Aligning data governance with privacy, cyber security, records management and information management requirements.
- Establishing governance forums and reporting mechanisms for data-related risks and issues.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience establishing or maturing enterprise data governance capabilities.
- Previous experience delivering data governance initiatives within large-scale transformation, ERP, GRC, risk or compliance programs.
- Strong knowledge of data quality management, metadata management, master data management and information lifecycle management.
- Experience developing governance operating models, policies, standards and procedures.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage effectively across business and technical teams.
- Experience working within complex, highly regulated environments.
- The ability to translate business objectives into practical governance processes and controls.
- Familiarity with recognised data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM or similar methodologies.
- Understanding of records management, information management and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
