About the Role:
The LMIE Senior Reporting Accountant is responsible for ensuring legal entity and branch financial reporting are completed to a high quality in a timely manner. The role also has an emphasis on developing and improving the underlying processes and controls, in line with the policies and standards of the Company. The job holder must have a strong sense of accountability and ownership of work assigned and be able to deliver results under tight deadlines showing flexibility and tenacity when required.
The individual will be in charge of Luxembourg-based deliverables and be reporting to a manager in Luxembourg.
About the Department & Team:
LSM operates through two primary legal entities which act as (re)/insurers: Syndicate 4472 and Liberty Mutual
Insurance Europe Limited SE (LMIE), which are regulated by Lloyd's, the UK PRA, the Luxembourg CAA, and certain overseas regulators in respect of their branch operations. LSM also operates certain other regulated entities, both in the UK and overseas, with more limited scope of activity. The global growth of LSM presents continual change within the jurisdictional landscape.
We are expanding our team of finance professionals in Luxembourg. Together with the wider finance team based in London, the Luxembourg reporting team is responsible for completing a broad range of external reporting deliverables and other local regulatory regimes. This includes monitoring levels of capital resources under different solvency regimes, working with different stakeholders across the business to fulfil detailed reporting requirements, and improving the quality of reporting and processes. Output from this function must be delivered to strict deadlines, requiring a high level of commitment from the staff involved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare quarterly and annual regulatory reporting returns to the CAA (Commissariat aux Assurances) and FINMA (Financial Market Supervisory Authority) for the legal entity.
- Manage and complete all other local reporting requirements.
- Plan and manage both the interim and year-end audit and handle all audit queries and requests.
- Perform all necessary detailed validation work, analytical reviews, and controls on data, working schedules and results. Create relevant detailed files to support all workings, reviews and conclusions.
- Apply expert knowledge of financial concepts and accounting principles to reporting.
- Take initiatives to assess workflows for efficiency improvements and to identify and escalate issues, unexpected results or data inconsistencies.
- Communicate and explain results with visibility into details of underlying work, key assumptions and conclusions made.
- Establish, document and perform internal control procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting; understand how data flows through the financial systems to identify issues and take action to address them.
- Continually assess the business value and efficiency of the work performed, making suggestions for improvements and collaborating with others in implementing them.
- Manage system improvements and documentation of controls in respect of LMIE reporting processes and prepare detailed working papers to support the review of LMIE results and external reporting.
- Work closely with wider members of the Legal Entity and Regulatory Reporting Team to assist with other deliverables relating to SII, Solvency UK or other statutory / regulatory reporting bases.
- Maintain relationships with various stakeholders across the business for effective collaboration.
- Support the Finance Target Operating Model (FTOM) project to modernise regulatory reporting infrastructure, enhance automation, improve data quality, and reduce manual effort.

Skills and Experience:
- Full or part qualified professional in a relevant accounting field with some years of relevant work experience in the financial services industry.
- Ability to interpret and manipulate data confidently and accurately.
- High degree of skill in Microsoft Excel and Power Query is a core requirement.
- Experience in Power BI/Pivot or Alteryx is an advantage.
- Confidence in learning and implementing new software and technology for eg. artificial intelligence for process improvements and design.
- Practical experience with SAP or equivalent ERP/ledger systems and reporting platforms is an advantage.
- Sound understanding of current insurance industry standards and CAA, FINMA, and Solvency II regulatory requirements is an advantage.
- Sound knowledge of Luxembourg GAAP and/or other European GAAP (French, Spanish, German, Italian, Swiss) is an advantage.
- Experience in financial statements reporting is an advantage.
- Fluent in English with knowledge of French and German would be an advantage.
- Ability to understand, interpret and apply complex regulatory concepts in a flexible and business focused manner.
- Good organisational skills including effective scheduling, prioritisation and time management skills.
- High level of attention to detail and comfortable with systems and working changes
- Willingness to learn and research solutions to problems.
- Team player and good interpersonal skills.
- High degree of accountability, ownership and responsibility.
- Ability to work in a tight deadline environment.
