Modelling Analyst

Hymans Robertson LLP Glasgow, Royaume-Uni
Modelling Analyst
The Vacancy

Our Insights & Analytics team sits at the heart of our firm, helping clients make better decisions through modelling, analytics and data-driven insight. Working alongside actuaries, investment consultants, risk specialists and software developers, they combine technical expertise with innovative thinking to solve complex problems for some of the UK's largest pension schemes, insurers and financial institutions. Their work is varied and rewarding, often bringing together specialists from across our business to develop sophisticated models, analyse risks and provide valuable insights that help shape our clients' future decisions.

We have an exciting opportunity for an analyst to join our growing team. This is an ideal role for a numerate graduate or early-career professional looking to develop technical modelling skills, gain exposure to a wide range of actuarial and investment challenges and build a rewarding career in financial modelling and analytics.

What will your role look like?

As an analyst in this team, you'll work closely with experienced modellers, actuaries, investment specialists and software developers across our business to deliver modelling and analytical solutions for a diverse range of clients.

You'll have the opportunity to work on projects spanning pensions, investments, and financial risk modelling, while developing a strong understanding of how modelling supports real-world client decisions. From analysing data and running models to contributing to research and development projects, you'll play an important role in helping us deliver high-quality insight and advice.

Though this is a varied role, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Building your knowledge of actuarial, pensions and investment concepts and developing an understanding of how modelling supports our clients.
  • Running models and performing analysis to support client projects and internal research.
  • Reviewing results for accuracy and reasonableness, identifying potential issues and highlighting key findings.
  • Preparing reports, presentations and other project outputs for colleagues and clients.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across our pensions, investment and analytics teams to deliver client projects.
  • Assisting with the development and testing of modelling tools and prototype models.
  • Working with senior colleagues to apply modelling techniques creatively to solve business problems.
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and support innovation across the team.
  • Developing coding and/ or technical skills, including opportunities to work with R and other analytical tools.
  • Adhering to the firm's Information Security standards, policies and procedures.

If you enjoy and have experience of the following, we think you'll love this opportunity:
  • A numerate degree, such as mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, economics, physics, engineering, computer science or a related subject.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in using data and modelling techniques to answer complex questions.
  • An interest in financial services, pensions, investments or actuarial work.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload effectively.
  • The ability to communicate technical information clearly to different audiences.
  • A logical and curious mindset, with a willingness to challenge assumptions and explore new ideas.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A desire to continually learn and develop new technical and professional skills.
  • Experience of Microsoft Excel or similar analytical tools would be helpful but is not essential.
  • Experience of coding, particularly in R, Python or similar languages, would be beneficial, although not essential and enthusiasm to learn is equally important.

We would also encourage applications from candidates who may not meet every requirement listed above. If you have a strong academic background, are excited by analytical problem-solving and are motivated to learn and develop, we'd love to hear from you. We provide a supportive environment, excellent mentoring and a range of opportunities to help you build a successful career in modelling, analytics and actuarial consultancy.

Please note - we recruit on a rolling basis for immediately available opportunities and progress candidates as soon as their applications are received. Therefore, we'd encourage you to apply to this role as early as possible to avoid any disappointment.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer:
  • A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs.
  • A collaborative and supportive work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged.
  • A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award-winning learning portal, Aspire.
  • Regular social activities, in addition to three days' paid volunteering leave each year and a day's leave to celebrate your birthday.
  • On-site mental health and wellbeing support.

We are open to the successful candidate being based in any of our offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Birmingham. We offer hybrid working so you can enjoy the positive wellbeing of working from home as well as the benefits of meeting colleagues in our sociable, modern office environments.

We are committed to being open and transparent in our recruitment and reward processes. Please note that this vacancy does not currently meet the minimum salary threshold requirements for Skilled Worker sponsorship within the UK.

To avoid any disappointment, if you require sponsorship we would encourage you to check whether you may be eligible for a discounted salary threshold, or to explore alternative routes to secure your right to work in the UK before submitting your application. If you meet the criteria outlined in the job description we'll be happy to discuss your individual circumstances further with you.
